Fade

When you left I hardly noticed.

You had been gone long ago yet I knew 

falsely 

that it was only temporary. 

 

 

That again I would see you.  

 

 

Only as the days staggered forward, 

as they  stacked and formed blocks of uniform time, 

did your absence grow and form into something unavoidably obscene.

 

 

 

To where the day has set so far on

what we once had.

It’s hard to say if there is anything

or if there ever was.
